  • A hard-cover book teaching some standard Islamic supplications (du’a) in different situations
  • Suitable for pre-schoolers of 3-6 years of age
  • Designed to instill awareness in young children that God constantly watches over all human beings, and consciousness that everything they do is guided by Islamic teachings

Review

The very first and foremost basic supplication (du’a) that a young child usually learns is of course, Bismillah before eating. But what to say after we finish eating, when we sneeze, when we hear someone else sneeze, when we see something beautiful, or even when we’re scared?

Just like the English teaches us to say our Please’s and Thank You’s, as a Muslim, it’s just as important that a child learns Islamic manners right from the start. This book is an excellent visual aid to demonstrate what to say in different occasions.

For example, ‘Alhamdulillah’ after we finish eating and after we sneeze. Just like the English say ‘Bless you’ after someone else sneezes, a Muslim should say ‘Yarhamukallah’ which means ‘May Allah have mercy on you’. We say ‘Subhanallah’ when we say something beautiful and ‘Innalillah’ when we lose something. There’s also something to say we say farewell to friends, ‘Fi Amanillah’. (I have to confess, I didn’t know that.)

There is a glossary at the back of the book explaining the meanings of each supplication which is very useful for parents.

What I like about it

The structure of the book is straight forward and simple, each page starts with the same “What do we say”, making it seem like a nursery rhyme book. The pictures are descriptive and easy for young children to understand. Even my 2 ½ year old boy could understand the pictures and could follow the correct supplication.

What I don’t like about it

Nothing to report here.

Conclusion

A very simple way to teach the basics of Islamic manners, with descriptive pictures and simple words. Nice!

What are the special features?

  • The booklet consists of 23 glossy, fully illustrated pages of Prophet Muhammad’s last sermon, presented by Owh So Muslim http://www.owhsomuslim.com/
  • A beautiful & practical summarization of his last sermon.
  • You can search for the last sermon on the Internet & read up about it such as the one here, where the writer describes the Prophet’s last sermon as one of the earliest declarations of human rights in written history, delivered more than 1,400 years ago.

Review

The final sermon by Prophet Muhammad SAW was delivered during the Hajj of Year 10 on 9th Dhul-Hijjah at MountArafah. As quoted from Imam Abdullah Antepli from the HuffingtonPost,

“Almost everything he says in this prophetic sermon was almost unheard of and inconceivable prior to the arrival of Islam. The prophet of Islam addresses some of the core universal values in a society where those values are long forgotten and violated in a systemic basis.”

“In this sermon of Muhammad, Muslims find their deep commitment to the universal human values such as sacredness of life and property, equality, justice, peace and more. Upon these high universal values, the religion of Islam was built. “

This little booklet is a cheerful illustrative summary of the Prophet’s last Sermon. Shamefully, I have to admit, that this is my first time reading about this last sermon. This cute little book has intrigued me and compelled me to do further reading on this sermon, and what I read bring tears to my eyes. (Yup, I’m a really a sucker at this heart-warming stuff.)

My favourite part has to be the ones about women rights. One of it is:

“Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers.”

Tip for wives: Buy this booklet, show this page to your dear husbands. Make sure he gets the message!

What I like about it

I think the Owh So Muslim team did a great job, relaying a legendary message of Prophet Muhammad SAW in such a wonderful, fun way. This book is not only for the kids, but is suitable for all age groups.

What I don’t like about it

Zilch. Nada. That means nothing, by the way.

Conclusion

Love, love, love! This cute little book is guaranteed to warm your heart as it did mine. Highly recommended!
