Review

How do you normally clean your contact lens? I’m pretty confident that you put your lens onto the palm of your hand, pour some solution onto your palm and rub your lens, somewhat gently, then pop it into your eye.

Did you know how unhygienic that is? First of all, you can’t guarantee that your hands are 100% clean. (You can use hospital grade hands cleanser and rub your hands together for 20 seconds. But I seriously doubt people do that, unless you’re a nurse.) Second of all, the rubbing action is not good for those tiny, plastic things because over time, this will tear your lens. Coloured lenses are even more sensitive than clear lenses. For a more hygienic way, and far easier, you should NOT use your hands.

So how do you go about cleaning your lenses? Introducing the Jitterbug contact lens cleaner kit.

The first thing I noticed about the Jitterbug is how small it is. The whole thing is really compact and could fit in the palm of my hand, so you could stash it in your bag and take it everywhere. The dual lens cases are so cute! The white thing that the case is sitting on is the cleaner and it’s magnetic, so you don’t have to worry about losing one thing or the other.

Before we jump into benefits of using the Jitterbug cleaner, I’ll explain about the protein deposits in our tears. These protein deposit stick to your lens, and make them uncomfortable, irritating and itchy. This will in turn blur your vision and can cause conjunctivitis. This is where the Jitterbug steps in – the high frequency sonic waves enhance chemical reactions and loosen the deposits. Lab tests show that the Jitterbug reduces 16% protein deposit after one week.

Additionally, the Jitterbug has two cleaning modes – rapid mode & extended mode. The rapid mode takes 16 seconds and is for quick cleaning action, say during toilet breaks at the office. The extended mode is for overnight use and takes about 6 hours, for thorough cleaning. It also has a counter where you can set the days remaining before you dispose off your contact lenses.

Check out this video to see the rapid cleaning mode in action.

What I like about it

It’s compact, easy to carry, easy to use, more hygienic and highly convenient. What’s not to like?

What I don’t like about it

Nothing!

Conclusion

Considering the benefits and the very affordable price, I highly recommend it for all contact lens users. A must have!

  • Child-proof
  • With a 360 degree rotating inner bowl
  • Made of BPA free plastic

Review

When you have little kids, it’s hard to have a clean, mess-free home. Introducing the Gyro Bowl.

The Gyro Bowl is plastic container with a lid that has an inner rotating bowl. At first glance, it looks cute with contrast colours, a must with kids. The bowl works fine when a child holds it at the side handle, rotating nicely without spilling its contents.

But looking at a test done by this mom, when you drop, throw or shake the bowl with a little force, the contents will spill out. Or as proven by this kid, hold the inner bowl and flip it. Maybe the label should say “80% spill-proof, no guarantees”.

What I like about it

The bowl itself is cute and, I have to admit, fun. My inner child loves the colours and the shape of the bowl, spinning the bowl like a merry-go-round. You could say that the bowl adds some fun into mealtimes.

What I don’t like about it

The plastic is durable enough that it won’t shatter into pieces (unless you run it over with your car, then maybe.) even when thrown to a wall. But the handle detaches pretty easily, and it does get annoying after several times. But no major cons.

Conclusion

Whatever that makes a mom’s life easier i.e. less mess to clean in less time, would definitely get a thumbs up for me! The fact that it’s a fun mealtime tool & affordable, another two thumbs up!

What are the special features?

  • Handmade using imported fabrics from Michael Miller Fabrics LLC
  • Beautiful fabric designs
  • Choose your own fabric, ribbon colour for the short strap, even the colour of your flap cover

Review

Looking at photos of the pouches, it was truly love at first sight. The fabrics designs are so adorable! I’ve always loved handcrafted or hand-sewn stuff and I absolutely envy those people who have natural talent for handmade crafts (because I have no talent in this area, at all). I have been window shopping for these kind of stuff on Etsy, but most of the makers are in US, therefore they sell in US dollars, so when converted into RM, becomes quite pricey. And that doesn’t even include postage yet, which can sometimes be equal to or more expensive than the item’s price itself.

So it’s really exciting to stumble upon a Malaysian crafter, who turned out to be a friend to my old college friend, Lisa. What a small world!

FYI, the fabric for my laptop pouch is Timeless Treasure – Reu Café and the one for my handphone pouch is Zesty Zinnia. There are a variety of designs to choose from the Facebook page album, most of them rather sweet and girlish. Lisa has recently added a few ‘unisex’ designs such as Pacman and Mix Tape in Multi, which are really cute and have a retro touch to them.

As I ordered two pouches in different designs, Lisa did offer to somewhat blend them together, by using the same colour strap ribbons, flap colours and inner fabric. I’ve always loved black, red and white colour combinations, which is why I chose the Zesty Zinnia. But my favourite was the Reu Café design, which was newly added at the time I was pondering over which design to choose. I love how it seems to be a mysterious romance unfolding, like Breakfast at Tiffany’s. (Not that I’ve seen the movie itself, but I saw the trailer and read up the story plot on Wikipedia.)

The stitching is very neat, and I love the personal touch of adding the product tab with the slogan ‘Handmade Rocks!’, an excellent branding tool. I also love the little dangling zipper charm shaped like a house, which adds to the overall uniqueness. As a daily train commuter, the zipped up compartment in the handphone pouch is very useful for me to put it my train pass, my earphones, a pocket tissue and small change for taxi rides. For the laptop pouch zipped up compartment, I put in some recipes I printed out from the internet, a magazine or sometimes a favourite book.

Lisa also included a long ribbon strap with the laptop pouch that you can alternate for the short ribbon strap, so you can wear it as a sling bag.

What I like about it

The designs are a key highlight in the pouches, and when matched up with the colourful ribbon straps, the item is no longer just a pouch – it becomes a really fashionable accessory. And at less than RM100, a very affordable fashion accessory.

What I don’t like about it

Nothing about the pouches, but it would be nice to have some padding in the long straps. Carrying an Ipad may not be much, but carrying a laptop for a long time could tire out your shoulder.

Conclusion

Love, love, love! Get it while it’s hot, girls!
