How do you normally clean your contact lens? I’m pretty confident that you put your lens onto the palm of your hand, pour some solution onto your palm and rub your lens, somewhat gently, then pop it into your eye.

Did you know how unhygienic that is? First of all, you can’t guarantee that your hands are 100% clean. (You can use hospital grade hands cleanser and rub your hands together for 20 seconds. But I seriously doubt people do that, unless you’re a nurse.) Second of all, the rubbing action is not good for those tiny, plastic things because over time, this will tear your lens. Coloured lenses are even more sensitive than clear lenses. For a more hygienic way, and far easier, you should NOT use your hands.

So how do you go about cleaning your lenses? Introducing the Jitterbug contact lens cleaner kit.

The first thing I noticed about the Jitterbug is how small it is. The whole thing is really compact and could fit in the palm of my hand, so you could stash it in your bag and take it everywhere. The dual lens cases are so cute! The white thing that the case is sitting on is the cleaner and it’s magnetic, so you don’t have to worry about losing one thing or the other.

Before we jump into benefits of using the Jitterbug cleaner, I’ll explain about the protein deposits in our tears. These protein deposit stick to your lens, and make them uncomfortable, irritating and itchy. This will in turn blur your vision and can cause conjunctivitis. This is where the Jitterbug steps in – the high frequency sonic waves enhance chemical reactions and loosen the deposits. Lab tests show that the Jitterbug reduces 16% protein deposit after one week.

Additionally, the Jitterbug has two cleaning modes – rapid mode & extended mode. The rapid mode takes 16 seconds and is for quick cleaning action, say during toilet breaks at the office. The extended mode is for overnight use and takes about 6 hours, for thorough cleaning. It also has a counter where you can set the days remaining before you dispose off your contact lenses.

Check out this video to see the rapid cleaning mode in action.

What I don’t like about it
